I know you can have one I think you should look at some sites that use free forum like this counter strike forum that visit frequently. They have a chatbox and some ereally nice layouts. http://css-tce.sephorum.com/

One thing I particularly like about it is the 5 latest topic appear on the home page. we have similar on the main forum I use but that uses vBulletin.

I think the chatbox would be used more often and look better at the top of the page. Jus sayin
